New Technology

NT stands for New Technology in Windows NT. It was so named most likely for two reasons:
1. It was the first network operating system delivered by Microsoft (it has both server and workstation versions)
2. It was a NEW Technology because it deviated from the normal FAT file system but employed NTFS (New Technology File System) which Microsoft has maintained in its subsequent operating systems ever since.

NOTE: Though it may not be new today, it remains a very power network operating system and still being used in many networked environments.

New Technology... it ain't that New anymore. But when it came out it was a real difference in business computing. Apple and Amiga were way ahead of there time, so was OSII - so if you had an Amiga like I did, you were like big deal. Nobody pays you 70 grand a year to know Amiga's though.
