The officers have to be POST certified
they have to be specificly certified in radar
the radar equipment will have to had been tested by using a tunning fork prior to the officer starting his shift
the radar equipment has to be FCC approved equipment
The officer is to follow a specific "tracking" procedure, not merley point radar and shoot.
Next various things can cause it to misread, fog, rain, snow.
also if the police car is topping a hill the reading can be off or if the police car is at an angle ( now sometimes the off reading is lower but still off)
Normally an attorney would make pre trial motions for discovery of evidence for all of this info, and the department does not bother to supply it.
next in I would say almost 1/3 of the cases the officer just never appears in court ( his day off, he worked the night before) and if he does not show up you can ask for the case to be dismissed.

There are various possibilities depending on the circumstances of the situation. We're you in heavy traffic? Were any other vehicles beside you that could have also registered on the radar, such as a semi truck, a van, a large truck or a larger car? Was the police car moving? Was there anything at all that could hav interfered with the gun's accuracy, etc., etc.?

all radar and laser before going out on the shift all need to be calibrated and the operator would have been trained and certified a certificate is used by the training officer if asked the Officer need to show you the time date and whom calibrated and the operational certificate (dont worry the officer will not get pissed if you ask to see them) as i said before at beginning of the working shift all equipment is calibrated radar and laser are 20% accurate during rain and if you have fog forget using one Unlike (vascar)of the older days that worked in any conditions the new one are very susceptible to weather and climate changes if using laser effective range up to 3000 feet but will give ghost immages best if used within 500 feet or less.

If it matches the definition of a speed trap under CA law then it can be thrown out of court. The following paragraph is a definition of a speed trap in the state of CA. CVC 40801.
The definition of a speed trap is very long so go to this web site and look at all the definitions and see if your situation falls in line with any of them.
