Because of my vocation I have traveled and lived in different countries. It has always amused me that Americans in European Countries seem to act more reserved and intimidated than they do at home. Americans in Mexico, Thailand, Philippines, India, Indonesia, Vietnam and Cambodia seem to act more arrogant and intimidating than they do at home. It is best to do as one has previously suggested "When in Rome do as the Romans do." Americans sometimes have a hard time understanding when we travel abroad we are guest in those countries. We have a tendency to want to act like the host regardless of where we are. Recently in Hong Kong at the airport one of the stalls in the men's restroom did not have sit down equipment. It was the local type where you squatted and put one food on each side. An American came running out of the restroom screaming to the top of his lungs that he did not travel over 8000 miles to spend his money to be inconvenience. If he wanted everything Americanized why didn't he stay home.

Mostly, yes. One good reason would be, people who are overseas act even more cautiously bearing in mind they're not in their own territory.
However, some people who act like saints in their home country could possibly act like devils while they're overseas because they're assured no one will recognize them anyway. Therefore, they still do act differently overseas.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do. That's the basic principle. When you're in a foreign country, you know right off the bat that their customs and laws are going to be different from your own.

For example, I get ticked off when I see people riding their bikes on the sidewalk here in Ottawa because I know it's illegal for them to do so here. When I was dating my ex-girlfriend, who lives in another country, I'd see people riding on the sidewalk there too, but I *wouldn't* react the same way as I would back home because for all I knew, riding on the sidewalk might well be legal where she lives.

Yah...they do behave differently...they try too hard to fit into the other country...in fact they are so different when they return to their own country, they develop an annoying slang when they talk and dress weirdly.
