no you definitely aren't dumb.
i can see how you can be confused.
it does seem really oily when you use it.
but you are actually using it correctly...
you apply the baby oild while skin is still damp from shower or bath for moisturizing and helping your skin stay soft and smooth.
and same thing for your baby, you use it daily to help seal in moisture and to help prevent chafing.
it does feel really oily, but it should be mostly absorbed by your skin, if you don't put too much on.
apply just a little bit, and if it feels like its too oily, paper towel is fine to wipe the excess off.
paper powder is for baby's rashes. you put it on their butt when you change them so it doesn't get dry and get a rash.
hope i helped you. good luck! :]

To use Baby Oil as a moisturizer, pour a few drops into the palm of your hand and smoothe it onto your (or baby's) skin. Don't use too much or else you'll get oil onto everything you touch! Make sure not to touch paper products or items that can become stained by oil. A little bit goes a long way.
Baby Powder absorbs moisture and keeps skin feeling soft, smooth and dry; prevents chafing. Dump a small amount into your hand and then apply it to the diaper area. Never shake the powder directly on or near your baby. Also be careful to wash away any powder that may have accumulated in skin folds. If it cakes there, it can create a breeding ground for bacteria that can lead to infections.

Well, maybe you're just using too much. I know it says to use while skin is still damp, so don't dry off before using it. Just squeeze a little bit in the palm of your hand and rub it in really well. If you still feel greasy, then don't wipe it off, just press a paper towel on your skin to absorb some of the oil. To use it on your son, just squeeze a little in your hand and rub it on his ams and legs and tummy to help seal in moisture and prevent chafing. Baby powder is used to absorb moisture and oil and prevent diaper rash. You just puff out a little on your baby's bottom after changing him and before putting on a new diaper.

Baby oil-You can rub it on your son's feet, and it's good for dry flaky skin, or tanning.Other than that I'm not sure.
Baby powder is for sprinkling in diapers, on bed sheets, you can rub it on your babies skin to prevent moisture from rubbing the skin+ makes you and baby soft.

The powder is for the diaper area to help eliminate chafing. if they get wet for too long its perfect for soothihng
Baby oil - I doubt you will need it - babies have very soft skin, unless you notice serious drying, but the baby lotion is far better and they LOVE it.
