yeh and it stinks. I have always paid my bills. I was in a car accident a few years ago, the guy who hit me didn't have enough ins. My bills were more than the ins. The hospital told me they could put a lien on any property and also suspend my drivers license. We live in the good old USA, we all should have med coverage and protection from things like I experienced that is out of our control.

It's called putting a lien on your property. This means that any money you make on the sale of your house would first pay off your bill and then you would get what was leftover. It's a way of ensuring that they are paid for the services rendered.

That can be avoided by making a payment arrangement with the medical provider and sticking to it. As long as you have kept to the agreed payment schedule there is no reason to attach a lien to the payees assets. This only occurs as a result of the debtor repeatedly ignoring request for payment.

It's called a lien. Mechanics and contractors do it too.

That's why if you have any kind of assets, you have to make sure you have adequate medical insurance to cover yourself and your family. Medical care isn't cheap and unfortunately it isn't free.
