Proteins in the cellular fluid prevent water from leaking underneath the tissues (interstitial space) and causing edema. In "Kwashiokar"- a protein starvation- the body cannot make proteins and the fluid leaks and makes edema.

Lets see now....prolong starvation leads to a lack of protein and amino acids. The liver is then unable to maintain blood levels of albumin, and osmotic balance is disturbed, causing fluid to accumulate in extracellular spaces. Thus u see the characteristic skinny arms and legs due to muscle wasting and big bloated tummies due to edema. Hope that helps....if still unclear...contact me :)

Milk, legumes, nuts, pulses, beans-soyabean, cheese, outer layers of cereals, meat, fish and eggs are rich in proteins. They same be given added with existing diet.
