Lately I've been questioning the stable society of what is the United States today. Gay rights, the war in Iraq, rising oil prices and the nut up on Capitol Hill and many more problems. I was thinking what could be a solution to the problems and than I couldn't help but thinking about how they say this is a "people's government". If it is a people's gov. why is it purely controlled by big business and greedy cooporations? You might not agree but I think this country simply needs a new source of pride. I mean how often do you hear somebody say "Wow, I love this country!", and although we may think that all I mostly hear is, "This countries falling to pieces", or any other negative comments. This isn't so much a question as it is me asking your opinion. But who else thinks that we should have a main language (english), a first religion (christianity) and many other things that give us a sense of pride in our country. I say as long as the MAJORITY agrees we should stick with it but still

respect the rights and beliefs of the non-majority.

For example, the whole "under God" thing in the pledge of allegiance. Athiests and what not might not agree with that but why can't we leave it until the MAJORITY is against it. To me, it's totally against what this country is based on. (having the people decide)

I think talking bad about other aspects (political parties) is another thing that creates a negative affect on how we think about the country.

Ok so going along with everybody saying we are lazy and immoral today... Do you think our country will be around much longer?

I think you have a great idea.... the Republicans and Democrats and Libertarians would not like it though.

My list of the most important issues:

1) Illegal aliens and as discovered deportation of illegal aliens and their children. This is one issue that can and will define the future of America, and the American way of life.

2) Muslim ideology.... not religion, ideology.... with 25% of the world's population following the ideology of Islam and 68-73% of Muslims supporting the radical terroristic form of Islamic ideology, it is a serious threat. This is an issue that can and will determine whether the world will continue to advance into a bright future.... or retreat into the darkness of the past.

3) Political parties that do not offer candidates who take a CLEAR STAND on issues... too many of them are ready to flutter like a leaf in the wind on the issues.... they will say and do whatever fits the moment and the audience. This is the issue that will make or break the back of the USA. We need people in government that say what they mean, and mean what they say..... and then do it.

4) As you said, a language.... English... it is already the language of success in this country, it is the language of electronics..... electronics is the language of computers.... our success as a nation depends on English. English is the language that best conveys ideas between people, it is a language that adapts and changes.... it should be our official language.

Fix those four issues and this country will be back on the road, or at least the steering mechanism will be fixed.... we might have to pull the vehicle out of the ditch.... fill the tank an get on down the road. America can do it....

VOTE, with your brains, not your feelings.

I understand where you are coming from that there are a number of problems but at the same time there are so many other things that are great with the USA. You're right when you say that money does control us and that if we didn't have it we'd be pretty much screwed. I think that we do need to deal with our problems and find ways to solve them instead of asking why they are here. Which they are trying to find ways to overcome our problems when it comes to the price of gas and some of the other problems. I think that people need to acknowledge that there are problems and at the same time open our eyes to see the positive and what we do have that is right. As for the main language, I agree that English should be the main language, but as for religion there are too many different types of religions here to say that there is a main one. I do love this country and it does have a lot to offer. I was was just reading the additional comments and I think that the pledge should stay the same. It's been with the United States forever it seems and I don't think that should change.

For sure, the divisive, hateful and viciousness were not here before the Bush Administration first stirred the pot by on the one side using that Born Again crap to snare the votes and create dissension. And all the time his corporate pals and global conglomerates were planing and hoping for any event that could allow for and give them a an excuse to begin a major confrontation in the Mid-East.
That's what the hell is wrong with America today. Have you hear him say another word about gay marriage, pro choice or stem cell research in the past month? Of course you haven't, hes got every one into this illegals scrap now and all the time we squabble about domestic problems, he and his corporate cronies are are into their Machiavellian crap in the Mid East.

Thats what the is wrong with America! We need to get off each others backs and take a good long look at what is really happening while we can still stop it, before it's too late.

There are a few problems with the US today.

1. Liberals have politicized the defense of the country. We have a bunch of terrorists who have declared war on us and our way of life. We have Democrats calling for captured terrorists who are not citizens to be given rights as if they were. This is stupid. Then we have 5 dumb idiots on the Supreme Court that decided they knew more than Congress and ruled that terrorists have rights under the Geneva Convention, even though it says only people fighting under a nation.

2. ACLU. They are criminals and lefties. They sue when the Boy Scouts use public property. They sue over a 30 year old landmark that has a cross on it. They are a communist organization that is nothing more than a cabal of anti-Christians and they should be investigated.

3. Judges are out of control. We need 1 more on the Supreme Court. Federal judges routinely violate the Constitution. See emminent domain ruiling that allows government to steal private property and give it to private developers. We have allowed the courts to overstep their bounds and we get what we deserve.

4. We are an ignorant and lazy society. We eat like slobs, are overweight, expect the government to provide education, retirement, healthcare, and everything else. We no longer as a whole will work for anything. We spoil our children. They have no work ethic, a foul mouth, and no respect. This is what happens when you give kids whatever they want, do not teach them humility, and parents want to be friends to their kids.

5. We believe what the media puts in our face. There are so many lies forced on us by the liberal media. How about the Valerie Plaime outing which was a fraud. It turns out Scooter Libby had nothing to do with it. All the media wants to do is smear Republicans because they cannot win in the arena of ideas.

I could go on and on about this topic.

To address your question.

1. English should be the national language. I do not want illegals here. They are not welcome here. I am sick of people who cannot speak english. They make me sick. There are too many spineless politicans who do not want to offend anyone by making english the national language.

2. The government cannot establish a national religion. Read the 1st Amendment. This does not mean there should be a seperation of church and state, which does not exist and is nothing more than a tool for anti Christian atheists and Jews to tear down morality. I 100% support Christian values that made this country so great. We need to teach right and wrong and that we need to pass judgment on bad behavior. Our government run public schools are a failure. Vouchers now. Competition breeds results.

The challenge in all of this is many Republicans need to go. They spend too much, have forgotten their roots. Everytime Republicans run as conservatives they win. The last 2 were in 1994 with Newt Gingerich and the Contract with America and President Reagan in 1980. Everytime Republicans try to run as moderates, the base walks away: Bush 1 when Perot took enough votes to cost him the election, and the list goes on.

The Democrats are worse. They have politicized the war effort. They offer nothing but complaining. Murtha and crew are TRAITORS. They undermine troop morale. They further all these trumped up abuse allegations. SHUT UP and KEEP YOUR OPINIONS TO YOURSELF. All they do is give our enemy propaganda to talk about.

As a conservative, who do I vote for? Republicans, especially in my area do not deserve reelection. But the communists that run against them are worse. I am still not sure what I will do. I could do what a friend does and write my own name in.

you sound very naive,or inocent,
check www.infowars to find out what is wrong and how your government is planning to reduce the world population by 60%
how the Bilderbergers are running the country
that 34 presidents are related to the same european ancester ,Charlemagne.
so the genetic clan that has been running the USA,has been at it for a long time, and voting has never had anything to do with the ruling of the country.
and that the leaders of Christianity ,the Masons ,and the illuminati are amongst the biggest warmongers for profit and power, that have ever existed on this planet ,how Hitler is related to Bush ,and that Hitlers quest is being continued to day in America
.
pride of what of being the worlds biggest terrorizing country
causing and financing war world wide ,not to speak of the bomming of thousands of Women and children.
you are probably totally unaware how your country is turning into a fascist police state before your very eyes
And brainwashed you are letting it happen,

you are even talking about a one religion state that is fascist talk
I supose you want colored and latin folks as second class citizans, like the South African past Apartheid.
at least they had 5 mayor recognised languages
in switzerland ,a model of Democracia ,they got 4 ,and holland that is even smaller got 2
great brittain which is also very small got irish, welsh, and english
canada has two and the Usa which has millions of latins(many more than the intire population of holland) insists on only one .

you have been listening to Arnietoo much, i think, the majority rules
and the minority parties go to concentration camps I presume ,if they refuse to be slave labor.
shame on you
and you people still hope to go to your heaven ,you have to be joking ,that was cancelled a long time ago.

Tree hugging, exhippie, potsmoking, you can touch my kid in an unpure manor, but you can't say a word about Jesus liberals are the biggest problem with America today. And the courts and the ACLU are simply full of them. I mean here's just on example of what I'm talking about. The ACLU is defending a kid who wore a shirt to school that had something to do with Jesus smoking pot on it. But yet they aren't defending a valedictorian of another school that in her speech said Jesus was a big part of her life. When she said those words her mic was cut off by the school.
So what I gather is that if you show Jesus in a way that makes fun of everything he stood against you're a hero and will be helped by the ACLU and they will use the freedom of speech argument (which is what there doing for the shirt kid). But if you're a Christian you have no freedom of speech, because she mixed "Church and State". One of the biggest sins according to the ACLU.

No we should not have a first religion. A guiding principle of thisnations is not to mix church and sate, and dont forget, thats why we came here ~ religious freedom. I understand what you mean about having a source of pride, and Im there with you on that, but I think we need to work on improving those sources of pride. Right now, a lot of hard work and passion is needed to right some very big wrongs, in order to grow in this changing world. we need to recognize ourselves as part of a global commmunity, and act more humanely in the rest of the world. We need to loosen our convictions about sexual orientations of others, live and let live, show tolerance and kindness, not racism and opression. If we can put these things in motion, so many disillusioned american citizens might feel they belong and as if they could once again feel proud.

No agreement here. Those terrorist out there want a first religion in their countries. The problem with most religions is that they don't allow for differentiation so everyone must beleive the same or they will be punished in the afterlife. Some would even want to punish those non-beleivers in their current lives. It wouldn't be good to have the government mandate that in society. No thanks.

If we can make it until 2008, yes it will be Ok

because this country isn't based on rule by the people, it's based on individual liberty.

that means that we don't need a main language, no first religion or any other doodads that we all cleave to; america is larger than that. we need no trappings to stand in place of loving freedom, why isn't that enough for you? why do you need something beyond the grandness that is all of us standing together as a nation without such rituals and acessories?
