where did the name The Doors really come from?

a little music trivia? please answer without using a search engine....

just so you know, what ray said in the movie is not where the name came from. so far i've only gotten one partially right answer, but there's a little more to it.

ray and jim both read a book by huxley called: the doors of perception. huxley took these words:the doors of perception, from a poem of blake. in the poem blake says: when the doors of perception are cleansed everything will appear as it is, infinite.

The first person who answered is correct. Originally, they were going to call themselves the Doors of Perception, based pon the title of a book, but the name was too long and to "heavy." It gotted shortened to the Doors and the rest is history.
