No, NARTH is a joke. The statement made by the APA during the NARTH protest of the meeting of the national association was quite thorough in putting NARTH in its place. Furthermore, by pushing the president of the Association they forced him to issue a clarification of an off-the-cuff response he had given that now clearly places them at risk of legal action for malpractice when they do not warn potential clients that scientific consensus is that reparative therapy doesn't work, and causes harm in many cases. And then, the busload of 40 paid protestors who couldn't collect 1 signature each from association members, so that they presented the ridiculous petition with 75 signatures on it, many of them from the paid protestors, when the Association as a whole is over 155,000.
And just in case that wasn't enough, the attempt to spin what is without question the least successful professional protest in modern history -- thus making themselves look even more like idiots, since everyone knows it was an unmitigated disaster. What the **** does a claim that they had 80% tacit support mean? I personally know about 20 members of the APA -- a number of them extremely well as colleagues and friends. None of them tacitly or openly or in any other way support NARTH or its theories -- particularly those that have dealt with gay and bisexual clients. Further, none of them knows anyone who has even a vague lingering thought of supporting NARTH -- anywhere in the country. A claim like the one about secret 80% support has a simple name. It's called a lie, and furthermore, everyone knows that too.
Just like everyone who bothers to look knows that no one changes. You put people back in the closet, you help them PASS for straight, and you give them sad little pathetic lives to replace real ones -- but change them? No. Not one. I know some people who have tried that route. None of them changed. I want Narth to produce 1500 people who can pass a lie detector test that says they were exclusively gay (not bi, gay) and then go through a monitored arousal study. similar to the one at the University of Georgia regarding homophobia.. Oddly, NARTH can't seem to produce 100 such people, say nothing less enough for a statistically significant study. I wonder why that could be? Hmmm.. perhaps because they are FRAUDS?????? DO you think that might be the reason?
I have acted to help others my whole life, and to do no harm -- even though I am not a medical person, just someone who does what they can. Harm no one should be the first command of medicine. NARTH does harm. It should not be allowed to operate, anymore than cults that use brainwashing should.

Well first off, a gay person can not change back to a heterosexual. You cannot go back to something that you were not. The few programs I have seen on this, the man is extremely famine and the women look like men. Then they have one child to prove they have had sex once. Then they talk about how happy they are and how everyone should do it (this maybe the reason so many people get upset over it). The is more to being heterosexual then the ability to have sex with a member of the opposite sex and to have a child.

The thing we get mad at is the underlying cause/"need" for this is the idea that being homosexual is wrong, sick, and perverted. That's what people get so pissed about. It was created by people that thought that being gay/les was sick and wrong. Instead of bashing the community, they got the idea that instead of trying to kill us all or force us all into the closet out of fear of death, they'd try to "help" us lead "normal," "healthy" lives by changing our orientation. After it was implemented and the GLBT community cried out in outrage is when they actually tried to back up what they were doing. All the major mental health organizations are aganst it, and homosexuality was removed from the DSM for a reason. It's not an illness.

There is NO SUCH THING AS AN EX-Gay
Sorry, but it's all BS. These so called "therapies" aren't accredited or endorced by ANY Psychological or Psychiatric association. As a matter of fact, not one of these groups keeps any kind of records regarding their suposed "sucess rates" because they don't exist.
If someone claims to be a "recovered gay" or "ex-gay" they're either lieing and were NEVER gay to begin with, or it's just a matter of time before they realize the life they are living is a huge, dangerous lie.
Please read a few articles regarding serious warnings about such groups.

It's very simple.
No. Those "therapies are not effective at all, those who have claimed to change may actually be able to sexually function with the opposite sex, but their desire for same-sex never goes away, their Failure rate is extremely high and higher still considering those who "fall back" into where they were in the beginning, dragging whatever "marriage" and children with them. The majority of their therapies consist of religious badgering and brainwashing techniques that have been proven to be very harmful to those involved.
Their "leaders" openly lie about their backings, their findings have been debunked repeatedly, and if they had been providing any other kind ot so-called therapy, they would have been shut down years ago, it is only with the support of Religious groups that they are still in operation today.

This form of "therapy" is actually a form of brainwashing, or aversion therapy. A person can, at least for a time, be traumatizes so that he or she rejects homosexual sex acts. It's not natural, and it certainly doesn't make the person straight. The end result is often social withdrawal, suicide, or return to a homosexual life.

adult males having oral intercourse family with person, consenting women human beings to boot as "regular" sexual intercourse is extra almost the "norm" than you will ever have faith. i think of you're an particularly youthful and unlearned male. if it rather is actual, loosen up and decide for !it,s very, very common in relationships of married human beings. i won't communicate for single human beings, yet think it,s actual for them to.while you at the instant are not involved in adult males you're completely secure and congratulations!!!!

No... I personally do not believe that there is an intervention in which you can go through to fixate your sexual orientation... We are who we are... Nobody should try to change themselves or other people for that matter.
