It's all a lie we've all been spoon-fed by our teachers and politicians.

Here is just one example:

Europe protects their citizens privacy and rights way more than this country.

We are being stripped of our rights and privacy piece by piece all in the name of "fighting terror."

Even such an institution as the Credit Bureau would be illegal in Europe. Europeans do not allow any agency, government or private, to collect data on its citizens.

This country allows this and even encourages it.

This country collects data on your criminal records, driving records, financial records and health records. Insurance companies can even deny you coverage if they find out you had some type of disease in the past.

All of this would be illegal in Europe.

Why do we allow our government to snoop around on us like the Soviet Union did to their people??

This is almost completely incorrect - I was born & raised in England & came to the USA (aged 30yo) in 1993.

The difference is that in Europe, most people don't stress over much of this.

In England, there is the Data Protection Act. But that was being circumvented, even as the legistlation passed through parliament.

Instead of the Credit Bureau - they have a bad debtor registry (I ran a debt recovery team & the last resort was to place person detail on the bad debt registry).

England has the DVLC/DVLA - a single national driver database, which we don't have here (I supported one state's driver software system for a while in the USA - here we have linked systems, but not a single database).

There are lots of places information is gathered & stored. But people are more interested in getting on with there liver, than complaining.

Pesonally I'm half-way concerned, after the illegal wire-taps by W. But remember - is he'd used FISA, he could still have done all those taps legally.

Re-read the Constitution. Best country by far in the entire world - warts and all. "Like the Soviet Union"..ok, seriously, not even in the same playing field. The 'snooping' goes on at all levels - does Monica Lewinsky ring a bell? Ever heard of the head of USSR being adjudicated for an intern and a cigar?

It is, what it is.

Your Government is not doing any of these thing to you. They are not Snooping on you yet.
The Administrators of gov't are doing these things, but not the gov't.

The US Constitution begins with the words "We The People."

When the People start doing these things, then we can say that the gov't is doing theses things.

Wait watch & witness it won't be long.

Well, Someone tells the truth. Thank you. I worked for 30 years in DOD and I can tell you this USA is not really free. We are told we are but we are not. This USA is not the best country in the world if you want freedom. You and I know that and people in other countries know that but the flag carrying apple pie eating people never will know/understand that.

1st I think you need to educate yourself about foreign governments before coming to snap judgement. We have bugs in the system but it does work. The fact that we are so dumb that only 20% of us vote and then complain about our rights when we don't excercise our most basic one. Get a clue, the European countries have cameras in the streets spying on it's own people. There are definitely problems over there too. Fix the one you got by educating yourself about who is representing you and then if you don't like it vote to change it.

Are you free to criticize your government and leaders in european nations? In Germany, you can be arrested for calling someone crazy. Is that freedom? In the U.K. you can be arrested for insulting the Queen. Is that freedom? How many european nations truely have freedom of religion? Or freedom from religion?
