I know of very few jobs that both pay well and are only 40 hours a week. I'm an accountant (money is ok), but January-April, I'm working 60 hours a week.

This is an oxymoron - a career by it's very nature is not thought of in "hours per week".
I have a good high paying career - I negotiate contracts for highly sophisticated and complicated items. Sometimes I work 30 hours, and sometimes I work 60 - sometimes I have to call Singapore and have conference calls at 10:00 pm my time.

Anything IT related is a good field as well in my opinion. It's what I do vaguely and I make pretty decent money.. As girlwhoknowsittrue so eloquently put it, careers and hours do not go hand-in-hand because they will always vary. You will find this to be true in about 90% of the workforce.
