We build a school in Baghdad, while our educational system suffers.

We pay to feed the children and homeless of Iraq while children in our own country suffer.

We give Social Security to damn near anyone who wants it but our seniors can't afford the medicine needed to live.

The U.S. gives foreign companies tax exemption for 7 years to operate in the U.S. while encouraging domestic companies to hire and use workers from other countries (Wal-Mart).

Many Americans are struggling to survive in their own country due to Katrina and relief still hasn't gotten to them, yet Hezbollah is handing out crisp new 100 dollar U.S. bills to people in Lebanon (where the hell did they get them?).

Does it seem our tax dollars are being abused? Or am I mistaken? Please comment. Respectful criticism only please.

You make some good points. But I think the problem is apolitical. It's about greed, and corruption.
Some politicians promise welfare to constituents in exchange for a vote. Others build pork projects for the same reason.
Citizens are to blame too. I have read many cases of abuse in the relief effort for Katrina. People who didn't even live in the affected area were making claims, some were double dipping. What this did, was deprive legitimate claimants their entitlements.
As for building schools in Iraq, I agree with that. We caused the damage there, so we should be responsible and fix it. It also foments good will among a segment of their population.
I don't understand giving tax breaks to foreign companies, when domestic ones are encouraged to do business overseas, taking away jobs from us.
There is a law in the military, that if a member is too wealthy, than they can no longer serve in the military--their reasoning is you no longer serve in the best interest of the military. The same should go for politicians. Someone worth hundreds of millions of dollars--number 1) doesn't know what it's like for the middle class. 2) no longer serves in the best interest of the nation.
Just my two cents.

Does it seem..? NO, it doesn' just "seem", it is a fact. The US government is just as corrupt or perhaps more so than any other country in the world. You are most definitely not mistaken!! We the Amercan people are f****d. Our government does not care for "the people" they care only about making themselves look good. I could go on forever, but I'm tired. I work over 40 hours a week and I can't afford any type of medical insurance, and because I work I can't get any kind of help. I'm not old enough for the medicare that I pay for weekly, but then again medicare isn't going to be there when I am old enough. So tell me why we Americans even stay in America.? Hmmm.

A large percentage of every tax dollar has ALWAYS been wasted by all governments and all administrations. no matter which party is in power. They call it "pork". The more we pay in taxes the more is wasted, simply because it is AVAILABLE. Haven't you heard of one political party which has always been identified with the "tax and spend" agenda? Doesn't that make it look very sensible to quit raising taxes and try to reduce them?

And the best is that many take from us with one hand open, and slap us upside the head with the other. It's like milking the rich grandmother for all she's got, and treating her badly at the same time.

They gave out a ton more welfare before the repubs got the bill passed that limited the aid. Clinton vetoed the bill four times, but eventually he lost.

You're just now coming to this conclusion?

We could probably eliminate 75% of the government spending, starting with foreign aid, and reducing welfare and social programs.
