Male pattern baldness is thought to be inherited from the mother. However, Webmd.com has information that states: Baldness may also be influenced by other genes, some of which could come from fathers, the study notes.
"We have indications that other genes are involved, which are independent of the parents' sex," says Nöthen. So hair loss could be a father-son inheritance, too.
The knowledge that mother's passed the "bald" gene on to their sons isn't entirely true anymore, so don't be confused. Other factors include, race, age, sex, and testosterone levels.
