Is there a formula? Its for year ten maths budgeting...

A guy may earn $23 600 per year, and $3896 is taken out of tax. How do i calculate the percentage taken out? The answer is 16.5% but i have no idea how to do the calculation..

Divide the Part by the Whole and multiply by 100.

3896 / 23600 * 100 = 16.5%

let:

c1 = percentage taken
c2 = percentage remaining
i = income (dolloars) paid
t = dollars taken out

c1 = 100 * t / i
c2 = 100 * (i - t) / i

looks right; notice that
c1 + c2 = 100.

The entire income is 100 pecent"
which is the sum of the "amount taken" and "the amount remaining"

take the bigger number, divided by the smaller number and mutiply it by 100 to get 16.5% so in this case there is 16.5% taxes taken off your cheque

Solution:
12 X 100
