UNPLUG IT, there is usually a drain in the bottom drain it, REMOVE THE PADS (they are really hard to get out after left in all winter...I KNOW..I always forget and then in the spring go...dang wish I had removed the pads and thrown them away). If it is on the roof or somewhere you need to leave it you should get a cover or a tarp. It is more important to do that if it is still connected to the vent (can cause a real draft).

Turn off the water thats usually in your water heater are valves to open and close the water to your swamp cooler. We used to drain all the water also in this procedure. Then go into the unit and take the pump out. and wrap it in a old towel if you have one or a large rag then cover the cooler with a canvas covering.to protect it throughout the winter months. Good Luck to you..

Disconnect it from the water, open it up and either pour or dip the water out of the bottom. Let it dry out. If you have a tarp, or a place to put it in the garage, that will protect it against the elements until next Spring.
