case in point: my friend was new in town and got lost while riding the buses. he walked into a papa john's to ask for directions; they all ignored him. he tried to wave down cars and nobody would stop. finally someone did and he said, "could you help me? i'm lost." they said, "so?" and drove off laughing. so, tell me, why are americans so friggin nice?

I find that people in urban areas are much less courteous than in suburban areas. I never had it that bad though. Usually if you ask someone a question in a polite manner, they will help you out. That has been my experience, but then again I live in a somewhat less populated city in the South. Have a wonderful day!

I wish I could tell you. I have to agree though. When I came back from a two week trip to Mexico, I was amazed at all the little things I hadn't noticed before. In Mexico, people smile and say "hola". In America if you smile at someone they often frown or ignore you. In Mexico, I fell in the middle of on coming traffic and people ran over to help me. People are much nicer in Mexico then in America. The quesion of why... I have no idea.

Ach we all have our jerks--American or not. Your friend just ran into bad luck that day.
...and to respond to the person above: It is true that some Americans are all paranoid, unintellegent, etc etc...but that will probably go the same with the people of your nationality. Dont generalize us with closeminded perspectives.

He asked directions in a place of business and was ignored? And your friend flagged down a car (a stupid thing to do), and a driver stopped just to say, "So?" and then drive away laughing? You should sign up for a creative-writing class. If nothing else, it'll make you a better liar.

Cause they are Americans. Period. They're just upset that most of them are dumb and fat and malnutritioned and are ruled by a complete idiot, as well as being in constant fear of dying from terrorist attacks from all of the countries that hate theirs. I would be a miserable, mean person too if I were an American. Thank god i'm not.
Solution: move to Canada.

You were not in Texas where you, or any state that is west of the Mississippi....sounds like an eastern nightmare to me, or northern Ca. San Fransisco area. Sorry about that...

you should make up your mind by the act of few fools because they don't know what they are doing. There are good and bad people everywhere. Just take it this way that the day was bad for your friend and he met all the bad guys that day.

It really is a strange vine, this generation, the chance that you get to ask one of them alone without their friends to watch and you may get a better result.

That really is too bad that your friend had a bad experience. I do hope you realize that half the people in America aren't really Americans, they are people that us nice Americans let live here and help support their "American dream".

I would not generalize all americans acting as those did. It is possible that your friend was in a larger city and my experience is those in larger cities aren't as friendly.
