Yes, the government would have much more money to spend on technology, buisness, etc. Taxes wouldn't be so high up, especially here in california where i live. I can't stop paying bills!! and what's also devastating is most people abuse the welfare. California is the top, i guarentee it.

BUT.... there's always a backfire

America would have much more stealing, violence, and homelesses on the streets. It can get very bad in America, and of course as I've said, especially in california.

But there's also another bad thing, because of welfare, and disability insurance is so high and taxes, companies are moving elsewhere. This effects California the most, the number one union in America and the highest welfare pay state. So that leads to companies moving out of the union.

So all in all, welfare can be good, and it can be bad. The only thing is, whatever state the companies go, that state's economy will rise. And California's will fall.

If, by some miracle, no one was too ill to work, or lost their money in bad decisions and too old to work, or dependent on someone who died or any other thing that pushed people into poverty, then yes, of course, the country would be more efficient.

If you mean America simply stopped paying welfare...you would see a depth of poverty in America that has hitherto only been seen in third world countries - death, disease, vermin, pestilence and suffering roiling out into the rest of the country like a mantle of shame. This country sits on the greatest resources the world has - arable land, minerals, water... If the poor and weak cannot be kept above disaster here there is no faith to be had in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness - it would show our way of life to be an illusion .

American would be a very sad country if there were no welfare, there would be handicapped people, sick people, children without parents, the mentally ill, the down and out, and unemployable begging and dying in the streets. It's not the country I would like to live in!

I think so.

I think, to be on welfare, you should seriously not be able to help it.

I used to work at a grocery store, and nearly every person (save for the occassional eldery person or disable person) that was on welfare looked VERY healthy and could be working. But they're not. That's there fault.

DUH! Of course! Hitler showed that in WW2. Of course we wouldn't be entirely human, and would deserve the same fate as the Nazi's. Mirrors probably wouldn't sell all that well. Backstabbing would become a national pastime. The rich could really expand the "Rich get richer, while the poor get poorer" line. Kinda like it is now, only worse. If you truley think your premise a good one, go and work at an inner city shelter. You should at least know some of those you seem to think undeserving of help.

well sure,, if the jails weren't overcrowded,, or had jobs for prisoners,, like making license plates like they use to 40-50 years ago, or gear for the military,, or send the petty thieves (not harsh criminals) or low level criminals to Baghdad, to fight for their freedom,,, did you know that many sit in prison and receive disability income or social security from the government,,
