If for some reason you have a crappy hand me down racket then it matters a good amount. A tennis racket won't make you a superstar but it can help tweak your game. If you are a control player I would go for control or vice versa. Use your strengths to your advantage, not level everything out.

Yes, it makes a huuuuuge difference. First, you need to figure out your swing type, because there are different versions for all swing types-the slower your swing, the more power the racket needs, which means less control. There is also the factor of the weight and the "techonology" incorporated in the racket which will be more or less effective depending on your game. Then there is the matter of head size: larger head sizes are better for starters because you have a larger "sweet spot" which is the area where you want the ball to make contact; on the other hand, a smaller head size gives you more precise control but its for more advanced players who can adjust their swing better for the hight of the ball.
Strings are also an issue. Natural strings are better performance-wise, but dont last as long as synthetic strings, which in turn dont have the same performance. The tension of the strings wil also depend on whether you like power or control-more tension for more control, less for more power- aaaaand on the type of racket. Each racket has a different range for the string tension.
All that said, buying a tennis racket is a very complicated process and you should visit many stores, perhaps demo some rackets, check online and learn about each company and what they offer, and what each type of racket offers. If you have a coach, talk to him/her; coaches can also get you very good deals at times.

Absolutely. There are so many kinds of rackets. If you are serious about playing go to a tennis shop or sports store where someone knowledgeable can show you styles that would be best for you. If you don't want a pricey racket at least you will have some ideas of what to look for at a discount store.
When first learning to play I used an old wooden racket for months. Then my friend gave me one of his old aluminum frame rackets with better strings, etc. It made a huge difference in how well I could play and I eventually bought my own better quality racket.

Yes Rackets normally affect one's playing ablity. The tension should be moderate as high can cause collision of the racket whereas low will make it harder to hit the ball. The tension should be depended on your ablity to hit the ball with force. The tensio should be between 56-62 lbs. Try usiing Babolat and Wilson or Head rackets

To find a racquet that suits you, go to a tennis shop where they allow you to demo their racquets. See what feels good for you. Talk to a certified stringer about what kind of strings and tension will be good for you. I would go for control over power.

No! Ok it does. Other rackets may be too fragile, so use a tennis racket.
