If you have negative feelings about preppies, why?

Here on Yahoo! Answers, and in the world at large, I've noticed that many have negative feelings towards preppies (by "preppies" I mean anyone who goes to a prep school and/or dresses/acts quintessentially preppy). I'd be really interested to hear what everyone has to say. Thank you!

Side note: wide generalizations will not be well-recieved. Example: no best answer if you say, "Preppies are jerks." Not that you're not entitled to your opinion, it's just that that type of answer isn't interesting because it's so broad.

Not really. People are just jealous of them. They just look like they have money (daddies money), and probably do. Those who don't, dislike them for what they have. By the way, I am not preppy, this is just what I figure the deal is.

Labels are the absolute WORST thing you could ever use. Nobody should be labled, whether they be rich or poor, skinny or fat. When I was younger I went through that rebellious stage as well, wearing all black and whatnot, and the only thing I really know is that the "preppies" seemed to be always putting people down, and being high on themselves. They seemed to like seeing the kids that were "lower on the food chain" than them suffer. But that's just an observation. Frankly, some people still do this, and some people don't ever outgrow it. But I think that's what people get at when they don't like the "preppy" group. They just seem like they love each other more than anything...but they only seem that way if you keep a closed mind. If you want to get to know them, just talk to them...though you have labeled them they are still living beings just like you. Hope this helped n.n Best wishes <3

Usually i think that preppies get a bad rap simply because they tend to act aloof.I went to a prep school. But i am by far not preppy. I didn't dislike them, they just seemed a little shallow. Concerned more with the right clothes and hair than anything else. Maybe it was just my perception, who knows. But when i watch shows like Laguna Beach , and my super sweet 16 and other shows along that route, it sure doesn't help me like them anymore.

I have negitivity against preppies because every time I meet a prep they always act girly and snobby. Like for instance, they acted like your friend and later on they act like a jerk to you for no reason and they act like they're the smartest of them all. So now preppies are the most hated people in ym school specially with the cool kids, the hip-hop and whatever type.

I have found that some people who would either be described as preppy or chose to describe themselves as preppy are highly insecure, petty people. I don't mean this as a generalization, but if you care so much about a particular label or even always matching or buying all your clothing from the same store, you likely have self-esteem issues and therefore are likely not a very wonderful person. Self-hating people tend to lash out at others, and are generally very cruel to those they deem below them. I don't mind people wearing whatever they want to wear, but when they act as though their clothing reflects their superiority, it bothers me.

Jealousy? hah. Actually it boils down to this, and that is that preps like to think so much higher of themselves in most cases. If they still hung out with the "normies" it wouldn't even exist, but they don't. If you don't have a polo shirt and some pricey khaki shorts, they avoid you like a plague. I went to a school that was full of preps and wanna be prep and they would only talk bad about some of the people who were less fortunate than themselves, even though most of those being talked about were really good people.

I don't know why people do i am a kinda preppy i am the rest atletic but i think some people just do not have the attuide to like other people in different attudies and i think some people show that they hate preppys because they some times can get in your face and get really annoying

I'm sooo immensely preppy! *YAY!* and would like to know this too! Soo many of my friends don't like preps, they say they can only stand me and when I ask them why, they don't have a valid answer.... actually... no answer at all as to why they don't like preps.

Preppies and wannabees are worlds apart. I am not fond of either because in my experiences, they typically feel (or atleast act like) they are superior to others

I don't care to much for preps because they think that clothes and the way they look is all that matters. Also they say like, like every other like wors. See what I mean?
