If he's got an Xbox chances are good that he already has Halo and Halo 2. Outside of Halo, my favorite 1st person shooter is Star Wars Battlefront 2. In it you can play as the good guys or the bad guys. The objective is to hold command posts until the other side runs out of reinforcements. Plus, it's got a nice training mission that can help you start playing Xbox if you want. This game is even more fun with two people playing cooperatively. The family that slays together stays together.

Halo 1 & 2: A first person shooter set in the future, where mankind is fighting for survival againts a technologically superior group of aliens.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: A role playing game set in the Star Wars universe. It takes place 4,000 years before episode 4. You create your own character, turn him/her into a Jedi and choose to walk either the path of light or darkness.

all of these games are rolyplaying games where you can make your charcter do almost any thing they want. for example. a little kid lost her teddy bear u could find it and return it to her or u can find it tell and show her that you found it and rip the head off right in front of her fo kicks if u want. and all of these games change evrey time you play them so its like buying more than one game b/c u can play it more than once and have a diffrent story every time

I hear there is a golf game that uses a motion controller, so you can swing the club and your character will do so.
