Pilgrims ( there are no more ) are the ones who settled at Cape Cod..They were separatists from the Church of England ( or Anglican Church )
I think you are thinking of Amish people, they dress sort of like pilgrims..but not so much. They mostly live in Pennsylvania

Go back to your history books and find out about the Puritans, who were only pilgrims of a sort. They dressed like that because they believed in plain-dressing (no frills, no jewels ...). The Puritans arrived in what's now New England sometime around 1620 at Plymouth, MA.

the Pilgrims were sepratist puritans. They were seeking religous freedom from the Church of England.
