For example life, death, science, the universe, etc. I think most probably it is not although a lot people would like to think it is. They have explanations for the creation of the universe and everything but what if that is only .000000000000000000009% of the truth.

Well, we do a great job with only a poor 10% of our brains. The other 90% will open vista's (probably Holographically) making our brains more like Quantum machines than anything else in this universe. So, yes, I definately think "one day" we will be able to.

I see our bodies as simply a mechanism our brain has made to serve it's needs, i.e., mobility, nutrition, amusement, stimulation, etc. Our brain has certain needs, and will modify this mechanism to fit it's needs. For instance, maybe one brain likes adrenilin so it develops a thrill-seeker's body. Maybe another brain likes particular sexual stimulations, so it develops the physique that would attract the perfect "stimulator."

It is weird to think of ourselves as simply "brains" carried around by bodies. So in that respect, no, I don't think the human brain is fully capable of understanding existence. In fact, when it comes to self identity, in most cases the brain seems to have taken a back seat to more superficial identity factors such as appearence and voice.

The irony is that in medicine, the least understood part of our body (the brain) is the very thing that makes us understand anything in the first place.

Thanks.

You have succeeded in destroying any enthusiasm I may had left to try and learn anything else.

My brain is taxed to the max and then you come along and imply we only know .000000000000000009% of what the hell is really going on?

There are some things we, the human race, will never know. It seems that if we can't put it into a mathematical formula or take it into the lab for analysis, it will remain a subject for philosophers and speculation.

This is SUCH a great question! (It really belongs in Humanities/ Philosophy or Psychology, but I'll give it a shot.)

No, we can't fully understand the universe, or we would have understood it by now. We keep coming up with theories, very few of which we can test. It is not the limits of our tools (scientific instruments) but the limits of our minds and the courage of our hearts.

An old psychological maxim: Reality is that, to which a normal mind appears real.

(Actually, before I forget-- here's a suggestion. Ask this same question several more times, putting it in different categories, like philosophy, religion, psychology, and you will see more different kinds of answers than you could have anticipated! I did that once with one of my questions and got many more answers and more interesting answers!)

Well, I think that we would have to be faced with the total truth of the matter in order to know if we could comprehend it in it's entirety. However since no one has a definite on any of the examples you have given we will probably never know.

I don't think so, there are lots of things in this world that nobody knows, and there are just some things we will never know. I don't think humans can really understand existence either.
