yes and with almost zero prospects for gainful employment. that portion of the art world is not in high demand and it's extremely political. m.d.'s might have major dept load but they're also in high demand with decent pay in most cases. art history majors (assuming you do a ph.d. program) will run a shorter amount of school but with very little chance of being well employed in their. field. internships are also a must and rarely pay.
i can easily see the debt load being equal or very close to medical school. but the real killer is the lack of available jobs in the field that allow you to start paying back those student loans.

that seems improbable to me since doctors go to school for several years longer than art history majors.
