What I could never understand is why people put themselves out there like that? It's just an invitation to critisism and ridicule. And how can anyone judge a person by a cartoon avatar??? I think it's depressing that so many people are so insecure that they have to ask this kind of question to a bunch of complete strangers.

Yes, it can be a pain in the neck to see such questions. We can choose not to answer.
Let them ask. Some need assurances because their loved ones did not assure them how beautiful they are to them. Assurance is very important to build up a person's self-esteem, preventing them from being depressed / feeling inferior / feeling unwanted / feeling unloved / feeling unattractive etc.
Ok, there are others who simply want attention. I believe we can tell who need assurances & who need a good scolding for asking stupid / shallow questions.

Lots of people ( teens mostly) ask that question because they want someone to tell them " you are lovely", its what all women desire. We can try to lie to ourselves and say we dont need anyone to tell us "your beautiful", but thats not true. We were created to be lovely, so girls like to know they have what it takes to become a beautiful woman.
