How old are you? It's not right for anybody to hit like that. If your in school, you need to tell a teacher or counselor. This man CAN be made to leave you and your brother alone. By leaving. Beating anybody is called ''Assault and Battery'' Your mom must not think alot of herself to date a guy that will abuse her kids. But what about the next boyfriend? If you or your brother don't do something, then things could get worse. Unfortunately, things like this happen alot, and alot of people get away with it or even worse, hurt very very badly. But I really seriously don't advise running away and leaving the state. There's much worse things out there than getting beat by a step parent. How will you eat, and where will you sleep? Sure, some people will help you, for a little while, but eventually that will come to a stop. And after that, what if you get found? You'll have to go back home, awaiting the punishment there. If you do escape all these bad things, where do you plan on going from there? Mexico, where you'll be sold as sex slaves, (Brother too) Go ahead, leave the state. But it's hard out there. (coming from my heart) I've done this before, and it was no good. Could've got killed.

Hon, get your brother and get out of there, call the police,as everyone else said and file charges. I wish I knew how old you are and your brother but either way, abuse is abuse..If your mother chooses to stay with him, that is up to her but you two did not ask for this drunken slob to come in and beat you up. If the police try and make you go back to "talk things over", tell them everything and insist on calling Child Protection immediately. No one , no matter what they do deserve to be beaten. When the dust settles for the two of you, get some counseling right away,OK.
Do not go back to that house, ask for a Protection order, or whatever they call it in your state. As the other person said, there is no gray between abuse, it is wrong wrong wrong, also, if you are close to North Dakota I know some good programs also. There are people that can help you, please use them, please. Next time he could kill you or your brother for no reason at all.
God bless and feel free to contact me also if you would like.

I'm not sure how old you are but I think that your best bet would to get your brother and yourself out of the house ....I think you should got to a neighbor that you can trust or better yet a family member. Then when you and your brother are in a safe place you can call the police and seek the help that you need to get out of this awful situation.
If you are with someone you can trust you are able to think more clearly. I do not think leaving the state is the best move for you right now. I will be glad to talk with you if you would like just let me know. Good luck and God bless!

It is much more than spilled beer and you know it. If you have evidence of abuse (cuts and bruises) and witnesses would help call the authorities. or plan ":B" You and your step brother combined have much more firepower (mental and Physical).
Form an alliance and make a plan. It is your home!!! and if Mom is not going to provide it for you two she is just as guilty as that drunken bum SPEAK UP. Don't let this basted run you off without speaking up first.

That guy is the biggest looser. I feel sorry for you and your brother.. You need to get out now. When you leave don't look back. never look back just focus on the future. Most people spend their whole life thinking about the past crying over it. Don't be like that. Stay focused on your goals what will happen tommorrow.

Hitting children is not a gray area, it is criminal.
Call the police, social services, and the District Attorney.
Take pictures.
Call a few private lawyers too.

You should call the Child Protective Authorities and have him arrested. Your mom is also guilty for allowing him to hit her kids. She sounds like she is unfit. Why should you leave when he is the guilty one? Let the police see your bruises. He will be gone for a looonnng time.
