The one thing I KNOW I could do really well, and there's no need for it. = (

Feel sorry for me!

Hehe ... be proactive. Write up your CV/Resume and send it out to publishing companies with a beautifully composed cover letter, individually crafted for each company!

It is a hard job to get into. All the adverts I see (and some I applied for) always ask for "2 to 3 years' experience" ... now how does one get that?

One can take proof-reading courses and I honestly think that would have to be the only way - to have a qualification to show.

Hey! Why should I feel sorry for you? You got the makings ... you go for it!

You have to be able to break into it on a consistent entry level somewhere, possibly at a local paper or magazine, or at least freelance through universities.

I'm sure there's a career counselor at your local college, or even at your old high school if you want to call and make an impromptu appointment. They're stuck with you until you've got a doctorate. It doesn't bother them at all.

Those types of positions are usually filled through inside contacts and aren't published in the paper. The best thing for you to do is contact the publication directly with your qualifications and inquire about possible openings.
