Would you take the time to learn them? Would you consider taking parenting classes? If it meant the mental health of your children, would you have the courage to do it?

When you consider that using physical violence to discipline children is what most people when they don't take the time to do anything else to solve the problem, or are not consistiant in their parenting skills why would a parent want to be that "lazy" as to not use other resources?

I have a two year old. And the way we try and teach her right from wrong is to talk to her and show her things. When she in being naughty we put her in a chair in the corner where there are no toys for her to get at tell her its time out for 5 mins we stand there to make shore she stay after a while they soon learn that when they are in that chair they have done something naughty and to stay till mum or dad tells them to move. Also when they are doing something wrong tell them no in a stern but not loud voice and then take them to time out.Kids don't come with instruction manuals it trial and error try different techniques with them> Watch what they are seeing on TV as that does not help they copy and food that makes them go crazy does not help. Interactions with other kids can teach them as well and daycare or school is great as they learn heaps quick how to behave or they miss out. Parenting classes can help but try your Owen stuff first to see how you go.

To be honest and end this VIOLENCE thing....

Um...I was spanked on occasion. I give my kids a swat now and then. Nothing wrong with it.

All this mumble jumble about kids having deep regressed feelings, etc.... bologna! Sorry, it just is.

Kids are kids, they are here to be taught about life and molded how to live life, not for us to watch.

There are so many kids and teens in trouble and messed up because heaven forbid we spank them and bruise their little Psyche. (Sp?)

Now as for beating, bruising, slapping, etc... that is a NO NO and called abuse. But when my 5 year old gets upset at me, and talking her down isn't working, and she wont listen and she starts her tantrum....a swat on the butt from me (SWAT not slap, whack, bang, etc...) will have her pause and you can almost see her face go "Oh SH*T" and she then changes pace, and we can talk.

So is spanking bad? NO. There is a difference in a beating that a spank.

My belief is a child needs a HEALTHY FEAR of their parents and elders. Because, well, if they are not worried about consequence then what will stop them from doing what they want?
NOTHING! And that is the problem with kids today!

Okay Im getting off the soap box. :)

Yes. I have two children and it is very important to never use violence. Every child is different as is ecery situation. There is always a way to show tem how to make good choices and that there is a consiquence fpr every ting. If young then redirect, the child,or use time out..

I always got my butt beat when I did something bad and was old enough to know I did. It didn't have any affect on my mental health at all. Look at fake Dr. Phil's son and that should tell you all.

somtimes "beating that ***" as my dad says gets the point across..works better than a "time out" ..i've found that talking to and asking why don't always work..a good old spanking helps..
