should have a sweet smell. it can come in a constant trickle or all at once. it can also come and go when you sit stand or lay down. if you feel you may be leaking fluids call your ob. she may tell you to go to the hospital just to have it checked out. if you are leaking fluids they will most likely keep you. if you are leaking there is a chance for infection if you are not being monitored. good luck!
judging by the questions you asked in the past few days...I would call your doctor or go to the hospital. if you are leaking fluids the tightening you're feeling may be the start of labor.

If the fluid you're leaking is a trickle there is a way to get a better feel about what's going on.
First, mark down the time you first noticed the leak. The Dr.'s will want to know this if you end up going in and it is your waters.
Second, go to the bathroom. Try to lean forward to ensure your bladder is entirely empty. Put on a clean panti-liner or maxi to catch the fluid. Lay down on your side for about 20-30 minutes. When amniotic fluid trickles, it tends to pool. When you stand up, if you gush out again then there's a good chance that's amniotic fluid... check the color of the fluid (it should be clear) and the smell (should be sweet or chemically... its very definite, but hard to describe, I've heard it said both ways).
If you're not sure, call your doc or go into L&D... but this way you can check or eliminate incontinence as the reason for the leakage...
btw - the water breaks in either a "high leak" (trickle) or "low leak" (gush) in only 12% of pregnancies (but it definitely does happen). 38% are broken by the Docs... the remaining 50% break on their own sometime during labor.
Good luck!

K this is kinda gross, so don't read it if you're a guy or a wimp.
Well, mine flew outta me. Like I went pee in the morning, and a whole lot of fluid came out. I was like, "was that all pee?" So I stood up, and put a foot on the toilet seat. As I did so, a whole lot more fluid came out. And I knew it wasnt' from my bladder. It didn't smell, well I didn't actually smell it. But when it breaks, you'll know. There will be no doubt in your mind. Good luck. My daughter came at 38 weeks. You're gettin close!!

With my 2nd baby, I slowly leaked water, it never actually broke. I called my doc and was told to get in right away, since it had been going on for a couple of hours. The doc finished breaking my water at the hospital. I was told it could have been dangerous if I would have waited much longer, and let it all leak out. I have 3 kids now, and my water never broke on it's own with any of them.

there is a definite smell. It is hard to explain, you will know if you smell something like it.
Actually, it could be a gush, it could trickle, it could come and go depending on how you are sitting or standing.
The only way to tell is if you go to the hospital and they do a test.
Even if you call your doc that is what he/she will say.

weren't you the same women who was afraid because the fetal movements seemed to be slowing down? (i know, i'm on this answers thing way too much). it sounds like you might in very high anticipation (understandebly) of labor that perhaps your detecting things that aren't really happening.
unless you are in the small percentage of women whose water actually breaks before contractions or getting to the hospital, your probably not leaking fluid. vaginal discharge will increase the closer you come to completing your term. if your panties are getting soaked, like being on a period, then definetly go see a doctor right away. otherwise, i'm sure you fine.

your prolly just peeing yourself. It's really not that uncommon. I wore maxi pads, pretty much whole pregnancy. My water never broke, I think it's like 1/10 womens water actually breaks.
