Not being a person who has the skill and training to be in that position, I can only guess. I would save the mother. There is no way anyone could know of the child's conception or family. If I was asked why the mother, I would have to say that I hoped the child was born of loving parents and that another child might come of the union, beloved as was the first.

You try and save the mom first. She can always reproduce again, so there will be more kids born. Babies take many yrs to grow to the point where they can reproduce, & they need their mom for nurturing, so it makes sense that you try & save the mom first. Then reproduction can continue. If you try & save the baby first, then you lose both, for the child is dependent on the mom. If she dies, they both die. Save HER first, then, if the baby dies, she can always make more babies. It only stands to reason/

The mother, ofcourse. any number babies can be borne by a mother if she lost this one. but no baby can bring another mother to her life if she lost this one.
