I did not mean Cy Young as the person... The award for this year 2006.

Anyone see him pitch tonite? 3 Hitter. His breaking ball was so big batters were bending at the knees hurting themselves.

Thanks Jeffrey! Someone got it. I had to add details. I did not think it was too much of a thought provoking question.

I think a couple of these guys didn't get your question. You are NOT comparing Chris Carpenter to Cy Young, you are just saying that he deserves the Cy Young Award. Those guys didn't get the question.
Yes, I think he will definitely in the running, but he could use a few more wins. Right now, his competition are Zambrano and Webb, and there will always be some moron on ESPN like Joe Morgan, who will say "ERA is nice, but to me, wins are what matters". I'd pick Carpenter, but he probably should win at least four more games to sew up the award.
Hey people! He isn't saying Chris Carpenter is as good as Cy Young, he is saying that Carpenter should win the award. DUH!!! That's not too hard to understand.

He's in the mix with Zambrano and Webb (too soon for Johnson of Fla.).in a weak year for the Nl Cy Young...You know, no pitcher has really been dominant in the NL this year, so if Carpenter has 5 or so more good starts and 3 more wins, he'll probably be as deserving as anyone.

I hope so but I don't think he has enough wins this year to get a lot of votes for the Cy Young Award. He is pitching as well as anyone in baseball right now though.

Cy Young and Carpenter played in two different eras and I beleive cannot be compared. Having said that, Carpenter would have to pitch many more dominant years to even be in the same breath as Cy Young. I am a Cardinal fan and a huge Carpenter fan, but equal to Cy Young. NO WAY!

Its certainly a weak class this year for the award. My vote would go to Carlos Zambrano though. Solid numbers on an awful team.

OH, sorry bout that...in that case he's 8th in strikeouts, 8th in wins and 2nd in ERA. So he's got a REAL GOOD shot if he continues pitching the way he has and the only other pitchers I can see stoping him are Josh Johnson and Brandon Webb and the fact that neither is making the playoffs (likely) is going to hurt their chances a lot.

I think he has had an excellent season, but if he had some run support he would of had some more wins and it would of been no question. I still think he deserves it though because of how valuable he is to the team but it's definitely not certain.

I'm rooting for Carp, but I don't think he is a shoe in at this point. I think his win stats don't show the true pic. I think Izzy blew a couple of saves for him and he didn't always have run support.
