I'm 18 and I only wear some to cover up blemishes. I feel like people aren't looking at the real me when I wear a whole bunch. And not bashing those who do like to wear a lot. At 16 it's usually kinda scary to see a girl who looks like she's 25 cause of make up.

Normally, I would say "It's just harmless fun! Girls think its fun to put on make up, that's just a fact of life." This is most certainly true. So why try to contain it so much? Because it won't stay harmless. Fun turns into necessity, which turns into low self-esteem. On top of that, the fact that the age of make-up caking is becoming younger and younger its making an impact in other areas of danger. For example: I have to watch my younger sister (whom is 12) all the time now because she's started to take interest in make up. There's on problem with interest, but when 21 year old men are mistaking her (since she's tall) for a 16 year old, it becomes an issue. It's cool to look older than you are, thats a fact for kids and teenagers. It's not cool when you're mistaken as older to the point that kids are put into situations they're not old enough to handle. So whos responsibility is this? The parents of course. There's two different things, putting make up on occasionally for fun, and that obsessive need to put it on because people will think you look ugly. You watch, you'll start to see that mindset transformation earlier the younger they start to apply it. I'm 19, and I don't wear make up at all, and its sad to see friends of mine that are so young and pretty degrade themselves because people complimented them a couple times with make up on. Society makes it a necessity, so it is one. We as Americans are the ones that have to change that.

16 year olds wearing lots of make up is a sign that something is up within our society. If girls that are 16 are feeling insecure about their looks and have to put on THAT much make up to make themselves feel "pretty" (I think it's more horrible), then it really shows that something is up. Perhaps our media of all of those beautiful other girls are pushing them down and putting up higher expectations.

Teenagers need little or no makeup. They are young. Their skin is good. But please pardon those with problem skin.
Some just like to have their eyes look big & bright, using lotsa of eyeliner & mascara. Perhaps, they're affected by the celebrities, esp. teenage stars, to look gorgeous all the time. Thinking that putting on so much makeup will make them look great. Some felt they need makeup for their insecurities or to make up for what they think they do not have. All females like to be pretty & look pretty, but simply to what extent. To them, it's the norm. To you, it's over-the-limit.
They have the freedom to choose what they want to do. So, let them be.

I agree. Too much, too soon. But unfortunately, everyone in the 'adult' world are, well... NOT ADULTS. And instead of being conscientious of the effects of the things they market, they would rather make money by selling product and icons and TV and movies and blah blah blah that all advertise and popularize teens and adolescents acting like/dressing up like adults. PHOOEY!

They are free to wear whatever they want. Even though wearing too much makeup really does make them look older and in some cases....uglier.

I'd have to say they probably look like whores, I don't wear much most of the time I only wear mascara, light eyeshadow and maybe just maybe some concelar or foundation, I only put so much on if I'm going out clubbing or to the movies. on a daily basis if I'm not going out I just stick to my average routine of mascara and some eyeshadow and maybe some concelar and foundation if I feel like it.

I did it when I was 16. Now I'm too old to look like a 25 yr old. It's just harmless fun.

They should save it for old ladies that need it. You might mention to your teenager that it makes them look like Senior Citizens.
