I want a laptop for about $500-$700 including tax, I know that a very low price, I want 30g minimum hard drive and 512mb of memory, those are standard things that I need plus a cd writer with a dvd rom.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

Try to look at Toshiba for quality. Pass on Dell laptops.

You might check http://www.tigerdirect.com and http://www.newegg.com for their best deals. But I think that you are pushing your luck for all that stuff at that price range. Good luck

< there is the dell inspirion b130 at $ 500 - 550 starting, but i do not recommend it, the inspirion is way too superior. buy something that u enjoy working with, plus lasting >

>> mind you, this is a quality product, i'm using a similar dell !
snaps, music, dvd flicks without even booting pc/windows, notice external console / buttons
lcd wide screen is great, but u can make it even greater by paying 4 additional trulife, costs u an extra $ 20
> tell u frankly mate, just go ahead and enjoy it !
maximum value 4 money !
< and ya, a few do blow out ... lol >

Well that's a really hard thing to do. What I can suggest is to look at online stores (newegg, etc.).

Dell has one for 649 w/o tax (Inspiron 1300 Basic Version)
http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/products/features.aspx/nb_basic?c=ca&cs=CADHS1&l=en&s=dhs
-1.6 Celeron
-512MB RAM
-80GB HD
- CD/DVD-Burner

I would also just go and look in flyers like best buy and staples or something. Acer, Compaq, HP, etc you'll find in those stores.

Go with an Apple. They are expensive but very dependable.
