Why do people who don't know the answer to a question bother answering it with "I dunno". Isn't that implied without answering?

Are you kidding? Points don't help anyone! They don't get you anything but the ability to ask and answer more questions!

I don't know why. However, I will agree with you, that it's annoying when morons just try to gain a couple of points by adding something stupid. Someone just did that to me.

However, I will make a speculation if I may...I think they either want to gain the points, or they want to see their name [or screen name] in lights so to speak.

Either one of those or their just jerks. I'd say report them

The reason I answer questions is because I like to help others and give them suggestions. I feel the same as you do about people that answer with a stupid answer that doesn't help anyone. If a person doesn't know the answer than they shouldn't reply with I don't know. They should wait for a question that they know the answer to and give an intelligent reply.

What's the point in answering? The answer is in the points... 2 of them to be exact... and if you'll vote mine the best answer... 10 more points in the bank for me. I ain't too proud to beg. Points are power. Power is addictive.

I know what you mean. You would think, if they could take the time to answer the question--they could at least have an opinion, although wrong as it may be it is better than "I dunno".
