Perhaps they create their characters in a way that many people can relate to. If you've ever lost a loved one, you can relate to Bambi losing his father. If you were a child who was adopted you might find comfort seeing another character deal with living with a new family. Disney tries to make movies that everyone can relate to in some way. Imagine being a little kid living with just your father - it doesn't matter where mom is - it would be cool to see how Ariel (Little Mermaid) handles having just a father. It's very much the same way there are not very many movies in any genre that have that perfect happy family. People don't want to see that - it's boring- and often has nothing to do with the life they lead.
I never cared too much about the hidden messages, but I always appreciated the subtle adult humor. If you are going to get stuck watching the same movie 40 times a week (as anyone with a 2-5 year old will tell you is the case) it's nice to have something geared for you instead of just little kid humor.

i'm not surea about the hidden messages. maybe just some lonely, mouth-breathing animators.
but the bastard child character has a very logical and sad explanation. when walt disney first gained success after snow white and the seven dwarves he and his brother bought their parents a brand new house. shortly after moving in there was a gas leak in the house and the parents died of carbon monoxide poisoning. it really hit disney hard. shortly after that happened bambi was made. and many orphaned characters would follow--lion king, land before time, the rescuers, finding nemo, etc.
so i don't think it was cruelty on the part of walt disney but rather an artisitic response to a personal tragedy.

Most Disney characters don't have mothers because the mothers are dead. Bambi had a mother. Dumbo had a mother. Aladdin's an orphan. Snow White's mother died and she had a cruel Stepmother. Cinderella's mother died and *she* had a cruel stepmother. Belle's mother died. Quasimodo's mother was murdered by the cruel Minister. Nemo's mother died when he was an egg. Pocahontas' mother died and her father gave her her mother's necklace. On and on. What makes you think they're bastards? Did you and I watch the same movies?
What message is Disney hiding its movies? If you don't like Disney, don't watch it.

I never thought of Disney that way...now that you've mentioned it...yah, it's quite true. You are really observant. Dumbo has no father, Bambi and Lion King's worse...orphaned, Little Mermaid has no mother, Cinderella and Snow White have got abusive step-mums, Aladdin's Jasmine comes from a single parent home, Tarzan's also an orphan....man, Mulan has to disguise as a man to fight in a war... the list can go on and on...I'm beginning to be disgusted already!

You think that's bad? In a Disney nature film, film crew chased lemmings over a cliff into a frozen river JUST to stage a scene proving that lemming commit mass suicide to curb the population, which isn't even true.

They don't have mothers? How did you come about this fact?
I thought that most Disney characters have mothers, they probably aren't mentioned, but, usually, neither parent is mentioned.
In the cartoons, anyway.

Yes, they never have a mother? and if the have a mother, then they don't have a dad, or the dad gets trampled by zebras!!! It's very sad and twisted, I think Walt Disney must have not had a very good childhood..did he have parents?
