The majority of perceived hauntings are not actually hauntings.

Many times, there are electrical problems in a house and those electrical issues can cause hallucinations (seeing ghosts, hearing voices, etc.).

IF the haunting is genuine, then you should most certainly NOT take the stance that it is dangerous. Most ghosts who want your attention will simply do things to get it. They can move objects, hide things, slam doors, mess with electrical equipment.

Cold spots do not indicate "evil"...in order to manifest themselves, it is believed that spirits need to take energy (heat) from an area. This is why cold spots are so common.

If you go around looking for monsters, you will find them but you should know that they will mostly just be in your head. Stay away from books by people like the Warrens. They have done nothing through the years except frighten people.

Always remember that haunted house movies like Amityville are FAKE. Regardless of anything that happened to that family in real life, the movie (and movies like it) are products of Hollywood.

I grew up in two haunted houses. The "ghosts" were real. We ALL experienced them. But the houses were good houses and no harm ever came to anyone. In fact, my parents still live in one of the houses today.

If the person was mean in real life, then chances are the spirit (if it's stuck here) is probably a little pissy. But mostly, they are just people with a message.

I don't know about you, but I'm more interested in the messages they have to tell than the fear they can invoke.

I don't think there has ever been a "dangerous" haunting Like someone getting killed or really hurt). The worse I've heard about is stuff like this:

Appliances turning of and on with no one touching them (you know you've turned off the stove, but you come back in and discover it is back on again). Also those typical "cold" spots. The lights in your house are powerful 100 watt bulbs but the light from them seems dimmer than usual. Pictures falling off the walls yet nothing is banging them or vibrating the wall to make them move. Areas of the house in which your normally happy pets refuse to enter (or become extremely agitated and restless). The feeling you're being watched (like someone is right behind you) but you look and nothing is there.

Most hauntings are not dangerous. But I'd keep an eye out for cold spots where it shouldn't be cold, like on the 3rd floor of a house with no a/c on a 85 degree day, things mysteriously moving, the feeling of a physical reaction, like being pinched or hair being pulled, family pets refusing to go into a particular area of a house, or hissing or barking at invisible things, foul odors, children having nightmares and complaining of 'a person' scaring them. This is a good website for suggestions on getting rid of spookies.http://www.hollowhill.com/guide/ifghost.htm

Well, I'm not an expert, but if something attacks you are you get an overwhelming sense that something doesn't want you to be there, then it is or can get dangerous. Also be on the lookout for odd or drastic changes in the personalities of those who live in the dwelling being haunted.

From what I understand, the movement of physical objects is the first indicator. An apparition might be scary, even gruesome, but is essentially impotent. However, an entity that can still manipulate its physical surroundings is far more dangerous, and from everything I've read these sort of minor mischievous acts are normally a prelude to something more violent. Of course, this is all if you believe in that sort of thing.

well, the first thing that happens is you throw a jacket over that creepy clown toy you have, but when you look back at it, the jacket is gone revealing the creepy clowns gruesome smile. then, after that, you get sucked into your tv and have to either go into the light or stay away from the light...it's up to you.
