Are white feathered wings the only means of transportation in the after-life? If angels have the similar body caracteristic of humans what would be the surface area and wing span to support an adult angel of appoximately 120 to 160 pounds? (I am assuming that there are no overweight or obese angels)

Angels are what humans percieve as perfection or at least the closest thing to it--the things that we want to be. We wish that we could be able to fly (for we can run, swim, so forth without technological aids) thus we give angels wings. They are beautiful/athletic because we ourselves want to be beautiful and at top physical form. Of course this can never be achieved however nice it could be. Still, I wouldn't mind having a pair of wings...make them with brown tipped feathers...twould be nice. =)

Logically as you mentioned their proportions do not make sense. Large wingspan-->muscle-->even larger wingspan to balance weight-->more muscle....hollowed bones would not do because they would not support our physical form.

But who knows. =) Wow...I just rambled.

Actually, angels are just below humans in the divine creation. So I prefer to keep my original creation as a human, and don't want those wings, but as drawn by our wonderful artist, they are a wonder are they not.

I would think the wing span would have to be at least that of a small two seat er aircraft.

Whenever angels have appeared to men on earth, they are described as having shining clothes, but not as having wings. Check out the story of Lot, the story of Joshua, and Acts 1 for examples.

But up in heaven there is another kind of angel called seraphim, that stays around the throne of God. In Isaiah 6, the prophet is taken up to a scene in heaven, and the seraphim are shown as having 6 wings - 2 to fly, 2 to cover their feet, and 2 to cover their eyes. How literal you want to take that is up to you, since it seems to be a vision. No mention is made of what the wings are made of. Not really important, I guess.

It's only a fantasy that angels have wings. They're supposed to be messengers from God. In the ancient Greek religion Hermes, the messenger of the gods, had a winged helmet and winged shoes. Same for his counterpart, Mercury, in the ancient Roman religion.

They don't actually have wings except in the visions of humans. When in physical human form, with Lot and Abraham, when they ate and drank and spoke as human beings they were of course wingless and human appearing.

In visions given to humans they are sometimes given wings to "denote" their speed. That is, to show how FAST they are and their ability to travel through their air. Demons themselves in the Bible are called "the rulers of the air and the high places." But they do not need wings being spiritual creatures without form.

Imagine this....a symbolic metaphor. Some of us have reached a higher state of spiritual awareness as humans. Have you ever met someone who is into Astral Travel?

The souls intention is learning to fly,
Suspended animation
Determined to try.
Can't keep my eyes from the circling skys,
Tongue tied & twisted,
Just an Earth bound misfit....I.

Pink Floyd knows.

We are the angels....

Blessed Be...the truth seeker.

They could if they wanted to. But why would they? They don't weigh anything. Unless they are adopting human form. In which case the wings would be a bit of a giveaway.

Your question is silly enough that one would think you're just yanking chains here, but sadly, I think you're not even kidding.

The question should have been, "What in Heaven do Angels NEED wings for anyway?"

i think angels are adults, not the fleshy babies they draw in those paintings. angels are beautiful, and i believe that there are angels out in the world walking among us, doing all of us great favors.
