I read that Tennessee Ernie Ford was a Bass. I don't see how.?

Johnny Cash is considered a Bass. T.E. Ford can't reach Cash's low notes can he?

T.E. Ford was a consumate Bass.
Mr. Cash has a good low register but I'd put him more in the Baritone range.

Tennessee Ernie Ford can reach a lower bass than Johnny Cash ever thought of,he gets really really low.I know because my parents listen to him a lot.
