They gave me muscle relaxers, and vicodin aadn told me to take these 3 times a day with ibuprofen and icing ,stretching and low back exercies. It is only getting worse, i have been taking about 3x the meds i am supposed too (which i know isnt good but damn im in pain) and it barely touches it. I am 31 and currently unemployed so i have had time to walk and excersise but i think i am dying. Now my right bicep is so sore i ca barely pick anything up . what the hell?

Try a Chiropractor. After I had my son I herniated 4 disks in my lover back. After many appointments with my primary care Dr. he finally sent me to an orthopedic Dr. there he set up an appointment for an MRI after they got the results from the MRI they called me into the office and wanted to set up emergency surgery because the bulges were so big. I was only 22 and had worked in Physical Therapy and had seen many people that were worse after surgery, so I said that there were a few things I wanted to try before I said yes. I tried Physical Therapy, Cortisone shots, Acupuncture and Masage Therapy and nothing worked. Meanwhile I couldn't walk, or take care of my newborn son. My family would have to come early in the morning when my husband would leave for work to care for my son. I hated it so much!! Finally one day Someone told me about this wonderful Chiropractor so I made an Appointment. In 2 months he had me walking on my own. I was pain free! I still have to go and see him once a month but WHO CARES!! I can live a normal life now without meds.

Because I can relate to your problem, I will tell you that I've tried everything but surgery. The only thing that really worked is Physical Therapy. You will be amazed what they can do to relieve the pain. I am currently in PT now for low back pain (but have done PT 3 previous times for other parts of my back) and have avoided surgery everytime with PT. I had the exact same thing since last Oct, then 6 weeks ago I started PT again. My pain in my leg & foot is non-existant now. I have many stretches & exercises to help that I do at home also. The problem stems from weak innner abdominal muscles & weak lower back muscles, once you get them strengthened, the pain will go away! I cannot rave enough about the benefits of PT, they really know what they are doing & you will be shocked at the results.. The first time I went to PT it was the middle of my back with horrible pain radiating down my arm to my hand, so much so that I was walking around holding my arm, like it was in a sling. The first thing they do is an evaulation, then they start out with easy, non painful exercises. I looked at them & said "are you crazy, me do exercises, I'm in horrible pain", but now I am a believer, it really does work, it's not a hoax!!!! Best of luck, please give PT a try.

I understand where you are. I've lived with back pain for over 20 years. Mne is related to a disc problem. Be careful about Vicodin, or other narcotic pain relievers. I can tell you from experience that they can cause more problems than good in the long run. I've found that exercise to strenghten the muscles around the affected area work better than anything else. Unfortunately, this takes time, and in the beginning makes you feel worse. I'd recomend following with your doctor ASAP. Good luck.

I don't know what they diagnosed you as having, but it sounds like a disc pressing against a nerve. I have had back problems for about 4 years now and if I bend wrong or something, I get in acute pain like yours. Good luck with your back...it is a terrible thing to have that kind of pain and then try to fix it. For everyday minor pain, try ALEVE. You can buy it everywhere and some places have it generic as well. It helps me some. Watch those narcotics....there are plenty of people that get hooked.

I have a history of back pain, and went through all the same stuff. Musclerelaxers, painpills, ice, exercise etc. This went on for month. I could barely walk. I went to a chiropractor in desperation and got the help I needed. No more pain!!!!!

Go back to your doctor ASAP, and make them image your back. It sounds like you have discs in your spine that are compressing nerves. They will want to Xray first, but an MRI is the only way to definitively diagnose it.

BTW, too much ibuprofen ( more that 800mg 3x daily with food ) can burn holes in your stomach and too much vidodin (the acetiminophen is the culprit here--3500mg daily ) can blow out your liver.

Sometimes the pain will radiate from one area of your body to another because you are tense from the pain. Get yourself to a chiropractor. Most accept cash and don't charge a lot.
