trying to install toggle switch between car battery and small pump attached to marine gas tank (fuel system for demolition derby car)

Your pump has two wire.
1) power wire "red"
2)ground wire "black"

Hook up a wire to to the battery.
Hook up the other end of that wire to one side of the switch.
Hook up another wire from the other side of the switch.
Hook up the other end of that wire to the power wire on the pump.
Hook up the ground wire of the pump to the car body, or frame with a sheet metal screw.

I recommend an inline fuse incase you have a pump motor problem. (gas and sparks are a bad combination)

So, attach power to power and ground to ground.

WHATS SO HARD ABOUT THAT PUT SWITCH BETWEEN PUMP AND BATTERY ON HOT POSITIVE SIDE,IN LINE

-PUMP, HOT SIDE------------->>>SWITCH>>>------------- + SIDE OF BATTERY

put it inline on the + side
