Yes I have had many of the things I wanted in life, but I did not make a secret of it. I wanted to play the violin, go to college, get married and this and more all came true. Now I am retired and life is still beautiful and good. I am grateful for my cats, my home, my friends, each new day. An attitude of gratitude....

I think life is what you make it. My dreams were to always become a beautician. I always worked with hair when I was 14 15 16 years old. People said that I would never go to college to become a beautician. I thought to myself, oh yes I will. BUT I tried working in factories to get enough money for college. I ended up working in those factories all my life. The only persons hair I do, is my own. Sad to say my life was wasted doing something that I hadn't planned on doing.

I think that our subconscious drives us more than we want to admit. It is secret because the knowledge isn't something we are ready for or would hurt too much, but as you still know it, it will influence your decisions. Like, if you are dating someone whom you love, but they are an unemployed stoner, who you know won't make a good husband or dad, most times, something will happen to break you up. Or people with low self esteem tend to find reasons to have relationships not work, to include subconsciously pushing the other person away. And lastly, if you honestly feel like "something" will happen, your subconscious mind will attempt to make this truth a reality, hence self-fulfilling prophecies.

I don't know about the secret bit I've never heard the saying.

Some people are just happy to be alive and here you know so don't expect too much of life and you will never be disappointed when things don't turn out to be what you wanted secretly or not.

I understand the question. I wonder that a lot myself. Actually I just boiled it down to this: We always get what we need, but rarely we get what we want.

The things we secretly need, its hard to say if we get them....because they're a secret right??!! Its even a secret to us. If we actually knew, then we'd personally seek out what want right...and then it would'nt be such an issue......my head hurts.....

I don't think this is an easy yes or no answer. Some people know exactly what they want and work hard towards obtaining it while some are afraid to admit it and end up getting it because they are trying so hard to run from it. There's s saying that goes, "sometimes you don't know what you want until you get it," and I think that applies here.

Sometimes we want something but don't really think of the results of having it. You know the saying "Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it". Well it's true. We should give serious thought to what we want because it may not turn out the way we wanted it to.

Yes! The sad part is many people, such as me, have not defined correctly what they really wanted so they end up with a house, job, kids and everything then realize they were pursuing something like the American dream such as in the movies and not their own dreams!

I think people unconciously seek and are attracted to things that were unfulfilled as a child. Or repeat patterns in order to replay them out in adulthood in order to 'resolve' the suffering that was not resolved as a child. I think a lot of people look back ad decisions and see that the people they chose and jobs, etc are helping them to heal by replaying those scenarios.
