This question has many answers. I will say that it depends on a persons moral and/or ethiical code. If they believe on practivcing certain religious principles as well, all of these things play into what makes a person feel guilty. We feel guilt as a result of knowing we did something wrong. WE know we did something wrong by what we view as wrong and what we value as correct or right. Also yes peopel can manipulate....as for guilt resulting from that...one must seek to understand what just happened and what they feel about that situation.

People feel guilty when they are not in touch with their own feelings and emotions. Those who are know that guilt is a useless emotion, it accomplishes nothing. No-one can make a person feel guilty. The person who feel guilty feels that way by choice, not because someone made them.

This is a huge question to answer.
Conscience is formed by a little bit of nature and a little bit of nurture. We know when we do something wrong as children because our parents start yelling at us. We know when we do something wrong as teenagers because we start to worry about breaking the rules or hurting people consequently. As we reach maturity, we feel guilt because we believe to have done something wrong that might cause someone else pain.
Unfortunately, I suffer from excessive guilt. If someone tells me off, for anything at all, I think about it for hours and I become depressed. This is called a legalistic conscience- feeling too much guilt for not the greatest reasons.
A lax conscience is one that feels too little guilty. It's *all right* to steal a few chips from work. From there, it's *all right* to treat yourself to a burger, or whatever, and it goes from there.
If someone is being made guilty when you don't think they should be, then they suffer from a legalistic conscience. Unfortunately, this is where my advice ends, for I myself am unsure of how to deal with this problem. Please, let me know if you find out how someone can stop feeling guilty for reasons that aren't worth killing yourself over.

Guilt is an odd thing. As children we learn guilt when we're scolded for making mistakes. We carry the weight of guilt around much more than we should, IMO. We're human, we're going to screw up occasionally. The best thing to do is apologize or do the best we can to right the wrong and learn from our mistake and move on. What good does it do to continue to feel guilt over something if we've done all we can to make amends? It's an unnecessary burden which serves no purpose. Act as harmlessly as possible and be quick to say 'I'm sorry". And forgive yourself as easily as you forgive others.

guilt is one of the top indoctrinated emotions fed to humanity through religion and mind control. What's the easiest way for a handful of people to control a large population? Teach them to police them selves with moral fear (such as guilt and a belief in hell). Another way is by dictating to the people what is normal and what isn't normal, that way anyone who tries to break free, or be different is attacked by the people. (ie. Princess Diana, Martin Luther King, Jr. John F. Kennedy) It's a means of control. Why do you think so many people have issues with homosexuals? They're taught to believe their not natural. So they're ridiculed, and controlled so the little group of rulers at the top don't have to. We're sheep keeping the other sheep in the pen.

I think the manipulator has a self-esteem problem...you shouldn't feel guilty if you haven't done anything wrong...it's like you're being brain wash..you should get away from this person as quick as possible...

its a complicated issue. Christianity uses guilt and fear to control its mass (no pun intended).. But in simple terms we are born with a sense of right and wrong.. some choose to ignore it and have their will regardless of consequence to themselves or others.. But under it all.. we ALL have this sense.

In my opinion, Guilt is a complex reaction of manifested mixed emotion. But human will could actually control it.
