Im not sure that I could list any wars as being good, however, I can look at the ultimate outcomes of wars and try to decide if the ulimate good out weighed the bad. I believe that the Colonial system England imposed upon the colonies was evil and that the ultimate creation of the United States with its Constitution and civial liberties justify the war for independance and therefor it was a good war. I believe the French and Indian war amounted to on the U. S. part to defense of soveirgnty and as such was justified. The war of 1812 really was an extension of the Revolution andas such can be justified under the same terms. The civil war ended slavery an evil and as such seems to have been good, but it would appear that it would have been better for it to have ended without conflict. The Spanish American war really amounted to unnecessary saber rattiling on the part of the U. S. and seems to me to have been ill advised and as such a bad war. The While the first world war was a failure as a war to end all wars, our allience with England could be seen as necessary, I would have to call it a toss up. The second world war we stopped a mad man. We were clarly justified. In the Korean war McCarther misjudged the intent of the Chinese resulting in a draw, however the strength of the south Korean economy compared to the north today would appear to justify the war. The disasterous result of the Vietnam war clearly would have to be called a waste of effort and American and Vietamese lives. The jury is still out regarding our present war in the middle east, however things are looking bleak. Some things are worth fighting for, and America is honestly a good hearted country, however, we need to be very carefull when going to war to ensure that the benifits will out weigh the terrible costs

WWI and WWII two are examples of where war had a positive effect - that effect being keeping tryrants and fascists from oppressing a whole civilization. Some would argue that the current war in Iraq is a bad war. No matter the reason it was started, it has created a world of new possibilities for the previously oppressed Shiite Muslim population. It also allowed the Kurdish people in North Iraq to survive and now lead prosperous lives without having to worry about Saddam trying to destroy them at the next opportunity. If we succeed, this will be one of the first truly democratic Muslim countries in a sea of militant religious regimes.

One example of a bad war would be the war on the Native Americans. This was a war with the sole purpose of driving the native inhabitants of this continent from their lands, so that Anglo Saxons could develop it. However, it did result in the positive effect of creating a land of newfound freedom and possibility.

While war may not be pretty and perfect, it is a necessary evil. There can be no chance for diplomacy without the threat of violence.

Everyone's right, war in general isn't good, but some wars are "better" than others.

Revolutionary War - good, if not we would all be British

War of 1812 - good, I guess - does anyone remember this?

Spanish-American War - bad I think

Civil War - bad although it helped end slavery, so maybe good?

World War 1 - bad

World War 2 - good - stopped facism from spreading

Korean War - bad, ended in a stalemate

Cold War - bad, a waste of time and money

Vietnam - bad, a waste of lives, no victory

Afghanistan War - good, payback for 911 - ended the tyrranny of the Taliban

Iraq War - bad

I see a great style of "definite, we hate Bush" solutions, yet that overlooks the common actuality of our strategies. regrettably, i think of that Kerry could have been worse. And Gore.. properly i could no longer be happier that Gore did no longer win. look at what an environment nutjob he grew to become into. we would all be taxed for respiration had Gore made it into place of work. the undertaking isn't with any particular president. the undertaking is with the two party gadget we are locked into, with the two events bringing forth pitiful applicants to instruction manual our united states of america. maximum folk finally end up chosing the least worst decision because not one of the strategies ever look that great. we are caught right here until events different than Democrats and Republicans have a genuine threat at competing contained in the election. they do no longer could desire to win, yet merely being a genuine possibility might stress the two significant events to grant us some applicants that truly ought to accomplish a little good for the rustic and the folk.
