What is a true node and how significant is it?

I M very aware which sign to read but am unsure how to interpret since it does not reside in a house, etc. I was told it has significance after 40 years old.

The Moon's nodes are two points on the Ecliptic (path of the Sun) where the Moon's path intercepts it. In the Northern Hemisphere it's called the North Node and in the Southern Hemisphere it's called the South Node.
