First suggestion: take a deep breath and calm down. You say that you can't see much movement or damage... If that's the case, you may not have a problem at all.

Your concern is whether small movements will become large movements, and while that's certainly possible, it's by no means guaranteed (if small always grew into big, then bonsai trees would grow to the size of redwoods, and I'd have a job as a center in the NBA!).

Get a contractor to give you an estimate of what it would take to fix your problem, and most importantly to give you their OPINION (and it is nothing more than an opinion) of what will happen if you do nothing. Then get another estimate/opinion and make a decision over the span of 30 or 60 days. Nothing big is likely to happen in that period of time, and you will make a much better decision if you're not stressed out.

Good luck, and yes, buying a house was still a good decision!

If you just bought the house the inspector from the mortage company should have told you at closeing if there were any problems. If that doesn't put you at ease get a foundation repair person to look at it and give an estimate. Then sue their pants off (try to make it criminal fraud(3X damages)).Or if there are foundation problems let the bank have the house.Either way you would have a good case against ;1 the Bank ;2 the seller; 3 the realestate agent;4 the inspectors insurance company.Good luck

Did you have the house inspected when you bought it? If you did and it passed, it's unlikely that the foundation is actually sliding unless you've had a flood or an earthquake.

Worrying about it won't help the situation. After the holiday, call a couple contractors to take a look at it. And try not to let your nervousness show when talking to them...less honest contractors will take advantage of you if you seem vulnerable.

It doesn't cost anything to get an estimate. Get several opinions and see how bad it is. How far has it slid? If it is slight and it is just a stress crack, this is common.

you should have had a structural survey carried out before buying it in which case it would have shown up then & the surveyor would be liable if not spotted, get one done asap good luck.PS right decision wrong house

Do something now. Waiting could cause unwanted damage.
