Technically you are eligible for full benefits under social security at age 67. you may begin receiving reduced benefits at any age from 62 through 67. Medicare benefits are not available until age 65 although you could elect to retire at age 63.5 and cover medical benefit under COBRA from your then current employer until age 65. You should also consider any pension benefits you may qualify for from your employers and when you would become eligible for benefits under those plans. Finally, any 401k, 403B, 457, Keogh, etc. plans that you may have participate in during your work life can also be considered to bridge gaps between age 55 and 65. In the many cases I've calculated, unless you are expecting to live a much longer than average life, or have a small benefits eligibility under social security, it is better to take the reduced benefit at age 62. One responder noted that benefits may change significantly before you reach age 62 and I would agree with that so any answer you receive now will likely be invalid by the time you have to make a decision.

It depends on how much you want. Check out the web page below. You can start receiving benefits as early as 62 at a permanently reduced rate,

It's impossible to say now because by the time you're the current retirement age, the law will have changed.
