They are bad, I can't describe fully but they drink inks fast; and ink nozzle clogs as if it was a 12 yr old Canon BJC-600 (I still have it, it's gone with waste ink full few months ago).

At least that BJC-600 outlasted the Lexmark I bought 2 years ago. Perhaps Made in Japan had something to do with that longevity.

In general, the Lexmark is CHEAP and their cartridges are expensive.

But I was assisting one of my friends, who's Lexmark power supply CRAPPED OUT. They couldn't remember really how old the printer was. So we called Lexmark tech support... and they shipped a new power supply. I was really surprised.

But I own TWO Canon Pixima printers.... The ink is cheap, the printer has a lower tray and upper tray... It's aweome.

You see, if you do a modest amout of printing... you pay $120 for the printer, but maybe $120 every 12 months for ink. With my Canon, my "Canon brank" ink is about half price. The color also comes in three separate colors. So when YELLOW is out, I don't throw away the other colors. Anther cool thing is that when a cartridge goes empty, the printing pauses. When you replace that empty cartridge, printing resumes... even if it was in the middle of the photo.... and you can't tell that it stopped.

So when you do start to look... LOOK at Canon.

Oh where was this question when I was looking for printers?
I had an HP which was not good (I don't remember which model, just CSE) so I bought a Lexmark Z55.

I have to agree that it does drink ink and the cartridges are expensive. Mine also jams alot if paper feed is not cleaned often.

I also have an ALPS MS1000 which I was given and it is sooo slow, but it does print great copies. The replacement cartridges aren't that expensive.

YES!!! It was the worst printer I ever had! The Dell one we have isn't much better. When the ink gets to the halfway point it dries up so we have to buy a new cartridge. I have a HP on my other computer (PCS 1200) and love it! Not only that the ink cartridges are cheaper for it than for the Dell and it prints better!! Huh?? Explain that one! Every time I would change the cartridge in my old lexmark I had to clean the print head too. What a pain. Good luck to you. =0)

They blow. After I finally spent a little more an bought an HP I took my lexmark out to the backyard and destroyed it Office Space style. It was grand... though the lexmark got in one last laugh since one of the gears bounced up and hit me just above the eye.

Don't know if they are the worst in the world, mine is junk, but one advantage is that you can refill a cartrige twice before having to replace. In this way lexmark saves you money. I have found ink refills even it dollar tree. Lexmark used to even provide a pre-drilled hole under the sticker for easy refill, now you have to drill your own refill hole. They may not be top of the line but this feature enhances their cost effectiveness so lexmark remains worthy of merit for thrifty consumers.

Yes! I've had two lexmarks and they were both lame! I don't know why but they print the text off the internet in faded pink even if it's blue, black or any other colour. It also doesn't print pictures in their proper colours despite having full ink cartridges. It'll print black documents ok but anything else looks crap.

And it goes through ink like there's no tomorrow.

Most definitely! They are usually inexpensive and installation is for the most part easy. BUT see how long they last or how fast the thing starts doing completely off the wall things and then do okay for a while. Soon it will have to be uninstalled and reinstalled so it will work for a week or two. Toss them and ask a computer store which they would buy if they needed one. Most likely a HP or Brother.

I've enjoyed my Epson printers - Had them for 7 years without any issues.

Lexmark used to be IBM's printer division and the quality went downhill when IBM spun them off.

I'd use HP printers as well, but Epson produces good crisp output.
