Why not go to a community college for 2 years and take a lot of your basic classes that you would need to transfer to a 4 year school. It's cheaper and gives you an AA/AS degree.

Then, move to NYC or LA and start trying to get acting gigs. Take acting workshops, work with coaches, but actively try and get acting jobs, learn the lingo and the business.

Acting is one of those things that the degree really isn't going to open a lot of doors on it's own. It's nice to have, but go get some life experience, too.

And if it doesn't work out and you decide to go back to school, you have that nice little AA/AS degree under your belt already so you are only looking at 2 more years to get a bachelor's degree.

Any university with a strong theater department and excellent acting teachers is a good place to study. Try to go to the universities and sit in on some of the classes to see how you like them. You need to make advance arrangements to do observe the classes.

If you really want a strong theater background, try the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, England. They offer excellent training.
