I need to know how to repair a leaky shower. I have a single handle shower and have recently had it replaced and now the shower leaks worse than ever. My plumber said he needed to tear out the wall and replace something behind the wall. Of course, big bucks. I fear that he looked at me and thought- stupid woman, nice house- big bucks.... help!

if it leaks at the shower head, all you have to do is replace the spout, which might have the diverter on it.
If your spout is dripping, the faucet can be rebuilt where it is.

If the diverter button (makes the water go to the shower head) is in the wall between the spout and the shower head, the plumber may be correct.

If it is leaking at the shower head, unscrew it and put some teflon tape (hardware store) around the threads and then replace the shower head. If it leaking at the handle the stem needs replaced. Unless you see water leaking underneather or on the back of the wall, there is no reason to tear out the wall.

What brand of faucet is it?
Where is it leaking from, behind the wall or from the showerhead?
Did you have the faucet replaced or just the cartridge?
A little more info will help us give you a more accurate response.

Make him come back and fix the stem(rebuild) like he was supposed to do the first time.
