There is the Strand, the old downtown Galveston. Restored by George Mitchell. Many shops and clubs,

If you like to dance, the Holiday Inn on the Seawall has live bands on Thursday, Friday, Saturday nights 9:00 to Midnight. Good music, some rock.
If you like ballroom dancing to oldies, San Luis Resort on the Seawall. Great pianist and vocalist, Tuesday thru Saturday nights, 7:30 to midnight. Great Steakhouse, pricey.
Many seafood restaurants on the Seawall, but try some on Harborside. Watch ships come in.

Great Seafood at the "Captains Table", West end short distance after the Seawall ends.

Always beaches.

We've been there.
There's a lot of rich history there. We wish we'd spent more time touring the town than we did.
If you're used to a beach with brown water, thousands of itty-bitty jellyfish, and hard, dirty sand that you can't make a castle out of or sink you feet into, go to the beach.
Sorry locals, but we're used to the white sands and clear water of Destin. I really mean NO offense.
We had a great time at a nice little public park just off the water.
All in all we had a good time there.
Delicious shrimp! If you can, get some off a shrimping dock and bring 'em home! Great steaks too, for that matter.

The best place to go is Moody Gardens...you will see it as soon as you drive in. It's the 3 pyramid shaped buildings to your right. It is a botanical gardens that has beautiful outdoor gardens and landscaping. 1 is a rainforest pyramid..it is soo neat, Its all glass and inside they have a totally self sustaining rainforest where the animals roam freely. Birds will walk right up to you and you can see fish and even a crocodile in the rivers. The 2nd pyramid is an aquarium that is huge and very impressive. They have sharks, sea turtles, sea lions, manta rays and penguins. There is also an I-Max 3-D theatre that is really neat. They also have a paddle wheel boat cruise you can take around the bay which is nice and relaxing and a beach that is open in the summer. You can spend the whole day there. You guys will love it. My boyfriend and I were there in December and fell in love with the place. Visit their website moodygardens.com to check it out. If you go out to eat and want some good seafood we went to FishTails which is on the drive by the seawall...it was really good.
