They can live anywhere between 15-40 years depending on how well theyre taken care of. In the wild they usually live about 20 years, in captivity, some have lived to be over 40.
They live in freshwater ponds, streams, marshes, swamps, and rivers, they prefer slow moving of calm water though. They were originally found in Southern part of North America, but now you can find them all over due to people getting them as a pet, and then releasing them out in the wild, which is NOT ok to do as they will most likely die if they were bred and raised in captivity..

In the wild, Red-ears live for an average of 10-20 years.
Their natural habitat are moderately shallow ponds in warm climates, like the southern states.

up to 20-30 years. Can be found almost anywhere in southern US I catch them in the pond here in NC also. They are the most common pet turtle and often released into ponds when the newness of a new pet wears off unfortunatly.

I got mine from a fish hatchery in Louisiana and they have been here for 6 years and have multiplied. They live in my pond and are fun to watch and good house keepers of the pond. They were the size of a half dollar when I put them in and now are the size of a hubcap. They eat lots of bugs and the fish food I throw in for my Catfish and perch. They will live until they die or something gets them but years I have been told.
